General Manager, Philadelphia Phillies

Ed Wade is entering his seventh season as Vice President and General Manager of the Philadelphia Phillies. Wade began his baseball career in 1977 as an intern in the PHillies’ Public Relations Department. In November 1977 he was named PR Assistant for the Houston Astros and was promoted to PR Director in 1979. In 1981 he became PR Director for the Pittsburgh Pirates, where he remained for five years before taking a position with Tal Smith Enterprises, a sports consulting company in 1986. Wade re-joined the Phillies in 1989 as Assistant to the General Manager. In 1995 he was promoted to Assistant General Manager.

 

Wade is a 1977 graduate of Temple University, where he played baseball and received his B.A. in journalism. He is a member of the Northeastern chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame, and was a member of the Steering Committee for the USA Baseball Team that captured the Gold Medal at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia. Wade also serves on the Major League Baseball General Managers Rules and Administration Committee.

 

Originally from Carbondale, Pa., Wade resides in Turnersville, N.J., with his wife Roxanne. The Wades have three children.
