Lew Klein’s career not only spans the growth of television, but also includes the education of generations of communications students at Temple University. An adjunct professor at Temple for five decades, he is revered by students, alumni and fellow professionals as a master teacher and wise mentor.
A season communications professional, Klein has served as president of Gateway Communications, executive producer of programs such as American Bandstand, and president of the Television and Radio Advertising Club of Philadelphia. He is also the founder and current president of the National Association of Television Program Executives’ (NATPE) Educational Foundation.
Klein has been the recipient of the NATPE’s President’s Award and the Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters’ Gold Medal. He has also been named “Broadcaster of the Year” by the Broadcast Pioneers’ Philadelphia Chapter and earned the Distinguished Education Service Award from the Broadcast Education Association.
Temple University is proud to present Lew with the inaugural Lew Klein Excellence in the Media Award and induct him into the School of Communications and Theater Hall of Fame.
